Community Standards & Acceptable Use Terms

1. Purpose and Acceptance

Northwest Arts and Crafts lists events where artists and craftspeople sell work they made themselves, in the Pacific Northwest. These Community Standards and Acceptable Use Terms (the "Terms") govern every event listing and all other content submitted to the website.

By creating an account, submitting a Listing, or otherwise posting content on the Website, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not create an account or submit Listings.

These Terms apply to Submitters — the people and organizations that create accounts and post Listings. Visitors who only browse the Website are covered by the Privacy Policy.

1.1 Definitions

  • "Northwest Arts and Crafts," "we," "us," "our" means the owner and operator of the website.
  • "Website" means the Northwest Arts and Crafts website, its subdomains, newsletters, social media pages, and any related services.
  • "Submitter" or "you" means any person or organization that creates, submits, edits, or manages a Listing.
  • "Listing" means any event posting and everything in it: title, description, dates, location, images, links, contact details, fees, and vendor information.
  • "Event" means the fair, bazaar, market, show, or other gathering promoted in a Listing.
  • "Maker" means the individual artist or craftsperson (or a small collective of them) who personally designed and created the goods they sell.
  • "Maker Vendor" means a vendor at an Event who sells only goods they personally made.
  • "Ancillary Vendor" means an incidental food, beverage, or informational booth at an Event, as described in Section 2.3.
  • "Pacific Northwest" or "Service Area" means the states of Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.

2. Listing Eligibility

An Event may be listed only if it meets all of the requirements below. Meeting them does not guarantee a Listing will be approved or remain posted.

2.1 Core requirements

  1. In-person and in the Service Area. The Event takes place in person at a physical location within the Service Area.
  2. Arts and crafts are the primary purpose. The main reason to attend is to see and buy handmade art or crafts.
  3. Maker-only vendors. Every vendor selling goods is a Maker Vendor, except Ancillary Vendors (Section 2.3).
  4. Real, confirmed, and lawful. The Event is scheduled with a confirmed date, time, and venue, and it complies with all applicable laws, permits, and venue rules.
  5. Authorized Submitter. You are the Event organizer or are authorized by the organizer to post the Listing.

2.2 The maker-seller requirement

Vendors must sell only goods they personally designed and made, by hand or with tools under their direct control. The following do not meet this requirement:

  • Reselling goods bought wholesale, imported, or sourced from a manufacturer, retailer, or online marketplace
  • Drop-shipped, print-on-demand, or white-label products the vendor did not substantially create
  • Mass-produced or factory-made goods, even if the vendor designed them
  • Goods made by someone else and sold on consignment or by a representative
  • Assembling pre-made kits or lightly altering commercial items (for example, adding a sticker to a store-bought mug)
  • Direct-sales, franchise, or multi-level marketing products
  • Vintage, antique, secondhand, or collectible items

Makers may use purchased raw materials and components (for example, yarn, beads, clay, wood, or fabric). Upcycled items are acceptable when the Maker has substantially transformed the original materials into a new work. Small collectives of Makers selling each other's work at a shared booth are acceptable if every item was made by a collective member.

The Submitter is responsible for screening vendors. We may ask you to describe your jury or vendor-screening process, and we may remove a Listing if an Event is found to include non-Maker vendors.

2.3 Ancillary Vendors

Incidental booths that support the Event are allowed and do not disqualify it, provided they are not the Event's focus:

  • Food and beverage concessions, properly licensed
  • The host organization's own table (for example, a school, church, or nonprofit bake sale or information booth)
  • Sponsor or community information tables that do not sell goods

3. Acceptable Events

The following are examples of Events that are generally acceptable when they meet Section 2. This list is illustrative and non-exhaustive; an Event type appearing here does not guarantee approval.

  • Arts and crafts fairs, festivals, and shows
  • Holiday bazaars and seasonal markets (Christmas, harvest, spring, and similar)
  • Church, school, PTA, community-center, and nonprofit craft bazaars
  • Juried and non-juried art shows and fine-craft exhibitions with sales
  • Artisan, maker, and handmade markets, including recurring (weekly or monthly) markets
  • Open studio tours and artist studio sales
  • Gallery shows and art walks where participating artists sell their own work
  • Fiber arts, quilt, pottery, woodworking, glass, jewelry, and other medium-specific shows and sales
  • Guild and art-association member sales
  • Street fairs and community festivals whose vendor area is limited to Maker Vendors
  • Pop-up markets hosted by breweries, wineries, cafes, or retailers, where the vendors are Makers
  • Fundraiser craft sales where Makers sell their own work
  • Student and youth art sales, supervised by responsible adults
  • Indigenous and cultural arts markets featuring artists selling their own traditional or contemporary work
  • Hands-on demonstrations or make-and-take activities offered as part of a qualifying fair or market

4. Prohibited Events and Content

The following Events and content may not be listed. This list is illustrative and non-exhaustive; Northwest Arts and Crafts may prohibit any other Event or content that it determines, in its sole discretion, is inconsistent with the purpose or spirit of the Website.

4.1 Non-maker and commercial sales events

  • Any Event where one or more vendors (other than Ancillary Vendors) sell goods they did not personally make
  • Multi-level marketing, network marketing, direct-sales, and party-plan businesses or events (for example, home parties, "vendor fairs" built around such companies, or recruiting events)
  • Pyramid schemes, "business opportunity" pitches, and franchise promotions
  • Flea markets, swap meets, garage and yard sales, estate sales, and rummage sales
  • Antique, vintage, collectibles, and thrift events
  • Import, wholesale, liquidation, closeout, or warehouse sales
  • Trade shows, expos, and home, bridal, or consumer shows made up mainly of businesses rather than Makers
  • Single-business sales, store promotions, grand openings, or product launches that are not multi-Maker events

4.2 Educational, professional, and non-market events

  • Seminars, conferences, conventions, summits, and symposiums
  • Lectures, webinars, workshops, classes, retreats, and coaching or training programs offered as standalone events
  • Networking, recruiting, or job-fair events
  • Vendor recruitment or "call for vendors" posts not tied to a specific, listed Event
  • Online-only, virtual, or livestream events
  • Political rallies, campaign events, and events whose primary purpose is religious worship, advocacy, or solicitation

4.3 Adult, illegal, and unsafe content

  • Any Event or content involving sexual acts, sexual services, nudity intended to arouse, pornography, or adult entertainment
  • Any illegal activity, or Events that promote, facilitate, or require illegal conduct
  • Sale of cannabis, CBD, THC, psychedelics, drugs, drug paraphernalia, or unapproved health products
  • Sale of firearms, ammunition, explosives, fireworks, or weapons
  • Sale of tobacco, vaping products, or alcohol, other than by a properly licensed Ancillary Vendor
  • Gambling, raffles, lotteries, or games of chance that are not fully licensed and lawful
  • Sale of live animals, or products made from protected or endangered species
  • Events where required permits, licenses, or venue authorization have not been obtained

4.4 Harmful or deceptive content

  • Content that promotes hate, harassment, discrimination, violence, or extremism against any person or group
  • Counterfeit goods, or goods that infringe trademarks, copyrights, or other rights, including unlicensed use of brand logos and characters
  • Goods falsely represented as Native American, Alaska Native, or First Nations made, in violation of the Indian Arts and Crafts Act or similar laws
  • Fake, fraudulent, or unconfirmed Events, including booth-fee or vendor-registration scams
  • Listings that collect payment, personal data, or login credentials under false pretenses
  • Misleading claims about attendance, jurying, awards, sponsorship, or affiliation with Northwest Arts and Crafts
  • Content that is graphic, obscene, or unsuitable for a general, family audience

5. Listing Requirements

Every Listing must be accurate, complete, and kept current. You are solely responsible for the content of your Listings.

  • Required details: Event name, organizer name, start and end dates, hours, venue name and full street address, admission cost (or "free"), and a working contact method.
  • Accuracy: All information must be true and not misleading. Update the Listing promptly if details change, and mark it canceled or postponed rather than leaving outdated information posted.
  • One Event, one Listing: Do not post duplicate Listings for the same Event. A recurring Event may be posted as a single recurring Listing or as individual dated Listings, but not both.
  • Images: Use only images you own or have permission to use, that depict the Event, its Makers, or their work, and that follow Section 4. No stock photos presented as actual Event photos.
  • Minors: Do not include the name, image, or contact information of anyone under 18 in a Listing without written permission from that person's parent or legal guardian.
  • Links: Links must go to the Event's own website, registration, or social media pages. No affiliate links, URL shorteners, or links to unrelated or unsafe sites.
  • Vendor fees and applications: If the Listing invites vendors to apply, it must clearly state booth fees, application deadlines, jurying criteria, and refund policy.
  • Accessibility: We encourage Listings to include parking, accessibility, and pet policy information.
  • Language and tone: Write in a clear, professional manner. No excessive capitalization, symbols, emoji, or keyword stuffing.
  • Posting timeline: Listings may be posted up to [12] months before the Event and are removed automatically after the Event ends.

Northwest Arts and Crafts offers paid featured and promoted Listing placements. Pricing, placement, and duration are described at the time of purchase and may change.

Paid placement affects only where and how prominently a Listing appears. It does not exempt a Listing from these Terms, does not imply that we endorse or have verified the Event, and does not limit our right to edit, suspend, or remove the Listing under Section 7.

Payments for featured placement are processed by our payment service provider; our Privacy Policy describes how payment information is handled. Fees, refunds, and cancellations for paid placement are governed by these Terms.

6. Acceptable Use of the Website

6.1 Conduct

When using the Website, you agree not to:

  • Harass, threaten, impersonate, or defame any person or organization
  • Post spam, chain messages, or unsolicited advertising in Listings, comments, reviews, or messages
  • Scrape, harvest, or collect other users' contact information or Listing data, by automated means or otherwise
  • Use bots, scripts, or bulk-submission tools to create accounts or Listings
  • Create multiple accounts to evade a suspension or restriction
  • Upload viruses, malware, or any code intended to disrupt or damage the Website
  • Attempt to access accounts, systems, or data you are not authorized to access
  • Interfere with the Website's operation, security, or moderation
  • Post fake reviews or ratings, or review an Event you organized or have a financial interest in

6.2 Intellectual property and license

You keep ownership of the content you submit. By submitting a Listing, you grant Northwest Arts and Crafts a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free, sublicensable license to host, display, reproduce, adapt (for example, resize or crop), and distribute that content on the Website, in newsletters, on social media, and in promotional materials for the Website.

You represent that you own or have all necessary rights to the content you submit and that it does not infringe anyone else's rights. If you believe content on the Website infringes your copyright, contact us through the Contact page with the information required under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act.

6.3 Privacy and personal information

  • Do not post another person's private information (home address, personal phone, email) without their consent.
  • What you publish is public. Contact details and other information you include in a Listing are publicly visible, may be indexed by search engines, and may appear in our newsletters, social media posts, and promotional materials as described in Section 6.2.
  • Publishing a Listing gives no one permission to collect, scrape, store, or reuse the details in it, by hand or by automated means.
  • Personal information you give us is handled under our Privacy Policy.

6.4 Accounts

You are responsible for all activity under your account and for keeping your login secure. You must be at least 18 years old to create an account and submit Listings, and the information you give us must be accurate.

7. Moderation and Enforcement

7.1 Sole discretion to remove

Northwest Arts and Crafts may, in its sole discretion and without prior notice, refuse, edit, hide, suspend, or remove any Listing or other content that it determines violates, or may violate, these Community Standards and/or Acceptable Use Terms and Conditions, or that is otherwise inappropriate for the Website. We are not required to give a reason for any such action.

We may also, in our sole discretion and without prior notice, suspend or terminate the account of any Submitter, and refuse future Listings from that Submitter or any related person or organization.

7.2 Review of Listings

We may review Listings before or after they are published, but we are not obligated to review, verify, or monitor any Listing. Approval or publication of a Listing does not mean we have verified it or that it complies with these Terms, and it does not limit our right to remove it later.

We may request information to confirm a Listing's eligibility, such as a vendor list, jurying criteria, or proof of venue booking. Failure to respond within a reasonable time may result in removal.

7.3 Enforcement actions

Depending on the seriousness and frequency of a violation, we may take any of the following actions, in any order:

  1. Request that you correct the Listing
  2. Edit the Listing to remove violating content
  3. Remove the Listing
  4. Temporarily suspend your posting privileges
  5. Permanently terminate your account
  6. Report illegal activity or fraud to law enforcement or appropriate authorities

Fees paid for featured or promoted placement are not refunded when a Listing is removed, suspended, or edited for violating these Terms.

7.4 Reporting a Listing

If you see a Listing that you believe violates these Terms, use the "Report" link on the Listing or reach us through the Contact page. Please include the Listing name and a brief description of the concern. We review reports in good faith but cannot guarantee a specific outcome or response time.

7.5 Appeals

If your Listing was removed and you believe it was a mistake, you may reach us through the Contact page within 14 days with the Listing name and an explanation. We may reinstate the Listing at our sole discretion. Our decision on any appeal is final.

7.6 Records kept after removal

After a Listing is removed or an account is terminated, we may keep a record of the Listing, the account, and the reason for the action for as long as reasonably necessary to enforce these Terms, prevent repeat violations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, and meet our legal obligations. Requests to delete personal information are honored to the extent required by law and subject to these records; see our Privacy Policy.

8.1 No endorsement or verification

Northwest Arts and Crafts is a listing platform only. We do not organize, operate, sponsor, or endorse any Event unless we say so expressly. We do not verify the accuracy of Listings, the identity or conduct of organizers or vendors, or the quality, safety, or legality of any goods sold. Attendees and vendors should confirm Event details directly with the organizer before attending, applying, or paying any fee.

8.2 Disclaimer of warranties

The Website and all Listings are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

8.3 Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Northwest Arts and Crafts and its owners, employees, and volunteers are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from any Event, Listing, transaction, booth fee, cancellation, injury, or dispute between users, organizers, vendors, or attendees. Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim or $100.

8.4 Indemnification

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Northwest Arts and Crafts and its owners, employees, and volunteers from any claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising from your Listings, your Event, your use of the Website, or your violation of these Terms or any law.

8.5 Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms at any time by posting the revised version on the Website with a new effective date. Your continued use of the Website after changes are posted means you accept them. Existing Listings must comply with the current Terms.

8.6 Governing law and general terms

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Washington, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or the Website will be brought exclusively in the state or federal courts located in Skagit County, Washington, and you consent to the jurisdiction of those courts. If any provision is found unenforceable, the rest remain in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of our right to do so later.
